Robert Boyle

Robert Boyle was born in Ireland where he commenced his study of composition with Dr Kurt Roger, a pupil of Arnold Schoenberg. He attended the Guildhall School of Music in London, studied composition with Elizabeth Lutyens, before furthering his studies in Spain and Switzerland.

In 1976, he was awarded a scholarship by Mexican Government to research music in ritual ceremonies. During his stay, there were concerts of his work in Mexico City's Museum of Modern Art and at the Museum of Science and Art, funded by the Institute of Fine Arts.

During the late 70's and 80's he toured his work in Europe and received commissions from French and Spanish Arts Institutes. In 1989 his work was broadcast daily for a week on Radio Francaise.

In the early 1980's, he travelled throughout Arabia and the Gulf States, researching the music of that region. He has also travelled extensively in Greece, Turkey and Iraq making a study of Byzantine chant and ancient musical traditions in the Middle East.

Robert Boyle has composed and conducted the music for forty films, including 10-part series The Encircled Sea and the Emmy award winning film, Tides of War. His concert music includes Refrains and Ancestral Voices. His music has been performed in Europe, the United States and Latin America.
